John and Grace Maguire Timmeny Scholarship for Public Service
Established in 2016 by Michael Timmeny ’73. This scholarship is open to any returning Harpur College undergraduate student, with preference for a rising sophomore, who demonstrates leadership qualities and is interested in pursuing a career in public service and/or has a demonstrated interest in politics. As part of the application process, students will be asked to affirm that they are registered to vote. First preference given for students majoring in History, Political Science or Philosophy, Politics & Law (PPL). Students minoring in History, Political Science or PPL, or students with other majors in Harpur College who also have a demonstrated interest in civic engagement and public service are also encouraged to apply and will be considered.
Preference given to a high achieving student with a minimum GPA of 3.0. The recipient must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This scholarship is renewable on an annual basis if the recipient continues to meet the scholarship criteria. A review of qualified students is done based on donor terms, and selection is made based on academic achievement and financial need. Recipients are selected in the spring/summer for the following academic year.
