Jordan Peter Hirsch Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2011 by the family and friends of Jordan Peter Hirsch, and awarded to a full-time sophomore, junior or senior student with demonstrated academic merit (GPA of 3.0 or above). Preference for a student with demonstrated financial need, and preference for a student majoring in biological sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, geological sciences and environmental studies, or who has expressed an interest in the study of science. Student must be a non-smoker. To be considered, students will be required to write a one page essay on the dangers of fatigued driving and steps to take if feeling fatigued while driving.

Demonstrated financial need is required the applicant must also have a valid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file for the applicable academic year by the application deadline. Recipients are chosen in the spring for the following academic year.

Use of known facts and statistics demonstrate a deeper knowledge of the issue, while personal experience shows understanding. The purpose of this essay is to raise awareness, provoke thoughtfulness, and possibly save a life.
